There are many interesting activities that you can try your hand at if you are bored or have a lot of free time. It’s very easy to pick up a new hobby and meet new friends by becoming interested in something new. My friends spend most of their free time doing creative or sporty things, anything other than watching TV.
Two of my friends paint. One of them has a long history with watercolor paints and will go for early morning walks just to get reference photos on her cell phone. She later sketches the photos that she has taken and paints them with bright watercolors. Most of her paintings involve flowers in the foreground, background, or taking up the whole page in her sketchbook. My other friend is really into gouache, which I know next to nothing about, and paints calligraphy for framing. She’s also working on a comic book with her husband.
Another friend is very keen on playing baseball, probably because it strengthens the bond between her and her son. She’s quite strong so I’d imagine that she’s pretty good at batting and pitching. And when she gets hungry, she shares another popular pastime with her son - eating sweets. They love sweets so much that after we’ve had dinner at a restaurant (dessert included), they go off to another cafe to have more dessert!
A slightly older male friend of mine is obsessed with going to the gym. He works out at the gym at least three times a week. He is in very good shape, although he eats like a teenager. Of course he eats fruits and vegetables, but he often skips dinner in favor of energy bars.
Photography is another big hobby that many people are into. More than half of my friends own good cameras and actually know how to use them. This is a hobby that doesn’t cost a lot of money (after the initial purchase of the camera), unless you start to print every picture that you take.
Then there are the friends that have an addiction to hanging out in cafes, sipping lattes and overindulging in expensive meals or pastries. Although I do envy them, I don’t think that I could do that more than once a month without it putting a serious dent in my budget.
