英会話のコツ: Prefer

Prefer means like better.  Instead of using like, we often use prefer when giving someone a choice.

Q:  I have some chocolate.  Do you prefer milk chocolate or white chocolate?
A:  I prefer milk chocolate.  

Q:  Do you prefer summer or winter?
A:  I prefer winter over summer.  

Q:  How would you like your steak cooked?  Would you prefer it rare or medium?
A:  I would prefer it medium.
