There are many delicious hot drinks to enjoy during the winter.
Hot chocolate is the most popular and maybe the best drink to celebrate the winter with. Some people make it with an instant powder mix, others use real chocolate squares melting in a small pot of hot milk. Hot chocolate milk is even better with a few marshmallows added to it.
Hot apple cider is also a well loved drink and easy to prepare. Like hot chocolate milk, it comes in an instant mix that just needs hot water added to it. But, you can also make it with apple juice heated up on the stovetop with freshly ground nutmeg and a cinnamon stick added to it.
The hot toddy originally comes from Scotland and is thought to be great for chasing away a cold or getting through a cold night. The recipe is quite flexible. You can enjoy it with whisky, rum, or brandy mixed with boiling water and honey. And if you prefer more flavor to it, you can always substitute the boiling water for microwaved Coke or Pepsi. Believe it or not, this actually tastes pretty good. If you do decide to try the Coke version, make sure you omit the honey because it will be sweet enough.
Whether you drink Eggnog hot or cold is a personal preference, although the cold version is easy to buy in North American supermarkets during the winter. An eggnog is usually made with milk, egg yolks, rum, and a few spices. It isn’t difficult to make; it’s kind of like a liquidy version of a really good custard pudding.
