Talking about your job may not be fun, but it’s a topic that is often discussed.  
Here are some things you could talk about:

work as + job name (architect, doctor, teacher…)

  • I work as a chef

  • She works as a shop clerk

  • He works as a mad scientist

work for + boss / company (Mr. Sato, Megasonic, the government...)

  • I work for Taro Sato

  • She works for Sato Bookshop

  • He doesn’t work for anyone.  He is self employed.

work in the + department (marketing, research & design, public Relations...)

  • I work in the kitchen

  • She work in the HR (Human Resources) Department

  • He doesn’t work in any department.

work in + industry (education, health, manufacturing, tourism...)

  • I work in hospitality

  • She works in retail

  • He works in the science.

work at (building/point) / in (city/country)

  • I work in Umeda

  • She works at the Nishi Umeda branch

  • He works at home.

work from …. to ….  (time)

  • I work from 6 to 3

  • She works from 9 to 5

  • He works whenever he wants.
