2016 - Year in Review

There were many interesting, unusual, or shocking things that happened in 2016.  Here is a short list of a few that stuck in my mind.

Trump wins the election

Who would have thought that someone as spastic, unpredictable, and filled with crazy rants would have been voted in as the next president.  His win came as a major shock to most people who had been expecting Clinton to become the first female president.  What will the future hold for the United States with Trump in charge?  Only time will tell…

Amazon Go checkout-free stores

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we didn’t have to line up to pay for our groceries at the supermarket?  Amazon definitely thought that eliminating the process of checking out was a good idea when they decided to open their first checkout-free store in Seattle.  Shopping is simple and quick without the need to line up to pay for the items in your shopping cart.  An app on your cell phone keeps track of whatever you pick up and automatically sends you the bill when you leave the store.  This is the future of the shopping experience.

X-Men Apocalypse

I wasn’t expecting much from this movie, but it turned out to be the most enjoyable film that I watched in 2016.  I can’t say the same for Independence Day Resurgence, which I had high expectations for, but ended up highly disappointed by.  The story for Apocalypse was interesting, and the action scenes were quite impressive.  Not everyone is into the superhero themed movies, but this one was worth the ticket price.

November 14 Supermoon

The Supermoon in November was the biggest and closest since January 26, 1948, so it was quite a big deal.  Most people tried to catch a glimpse of it on the 14th of November, even though it was too foggy to see it from most places in Osaka.  Some people even captured amazing images of it from the inside of an airplane.

Pokemon GO

This game became so popular that people were playing it everywhere, even while driving their cars!  Although it was fun for a time, the number of accidents and problems that it caused kind of detracted from anything positive that may have come from it.

How about you? What are some things you found memorable in 2016?
