英会話のコツ:So vs. Such

Today lets’s look at the difference between “so” & “such”.

When using only an adjective(形容詞)to describe someone or something we use "so".

  • David is so tall.

  • Yuzuru Hanyu's routine was so amazing.

  • The Tigers were so disappointing.

  • Smartphones are so useful.

  • The party was so fantastic.

When we include the noun(名詞) to describe someone or something we use "such".

  • David is such a tall guy.

  • Yuzuru Hanyu performed such an amazing routine.

  • The Tigers season was such a disappointment. / The Tigers had such a disappointing season.

  • I had such a great time at the party.

  • Smartphones are such useful devices.

  • Sofia and Istanbul were such beautiful cities.

  • Risa and Takayuki are such good friends.

  • These are such lovely flowers.

To describe large amounts we can also use "so many" and "so much" with nouns.

  • There were so many cars on the road.

  • I drank so much water.

  • She didn't get so much sleep last night.

  • There will be so many fun things to do.

I hope that was helpful, and good luck with your studies!!
