英会話のコツ: Irregular Verbs - Past Tense

Regular verbs are easy to put into the past tense because you just add -ed to the end of them, but irregular verbs take a bit of studying and memorizing to get the hang of.  Use the past tense to talk about things that happened sometime in the past (ex: yesterday, last week, two years ago).

 

Common irregular verbs:

Become - became

Bite- bit

Break - broke

Bring - brought

Catch - caught

Choose - chose

Come - came

Cut- cut

Drink - drank

Eat - ate

Fall - fell

Fly - flew

Give - gave

Go - went

Grow - grew

Hit - hit

Lose - lost

Meet - met

Quit - quit

Ride - rode

Sing - sang

Sit - sat

Win - won

Write - wrote

  • Donald Trump became the president of the United States last year
  • I broke one of my wine glasses while washing it after Christmas
  • My friend caught a cold two months ago
  • The construction workers gave the Yodo River bridge a fresh coat of paint a few days ago
  • Elon Musk grew up in South Africa
  • Taylor Swift sang her most popular songs at her recent concert
  • Chloe Kim won the gold medal at the Pyeong Chang 2018 Olympics
