Differences between the UK and Japan

Hello everyone,

There are a couple differences between Japan and the UK that I would like to share with you here. These are just two of the things that I have noticed over the past 9 months that I have been here.

Technology:

I have noticed that in the post office and in banks there are not a lot of computers. In the UK there are computers everywhere and we also have a lot of self service machines in our supermarkets. I was a little surprised when I first came to Japan and saw that there were less computers than in the UK. In the UK we think that Japan has a lot of computers and robots and so I thought that there would be computers everywhere when I arrived.

Safety:

I come from a city called Manchester in the north of England. Manchester is a relatively safe place but I think that Japan is much safer. In many cafes in Japan I have seen people leave valuable things on tables when they go to the toilet. I was surprised to see this because in the UK (in Manchester, anyway) I would NEVER leave my wallet or phone on the table in a cafe if I go to the toilet. I would be afraid someone would steal it. In Japan I have also noticed that some people have wallets and phones in the back pockets of their trousers. In Manchester I never use the back pocket of my trousers because it is very easy for someone to steal my things. In Manchester I am more careful about my wallet and money but in Japan I`m not worried at all!

I hope this was interesting for you!

Have a nice day,

David
